Why I do what I do: The Audience

​Everyone wants to laugh.
This is why I do what I do: The audience. Even more so, all the different audiences.
I’ve been blessed to literally travel the world making all sorts of people laugh, regardless of age, race, religion, gender, sexuality, culture or upbringing.
Laughing is intrinsic in our nature. As babies, it’s one of the first things we do (after pooping and crying) We laugh at silly stuff. All of this happens before the stresses of adulthood occupy our fibers, the sensationalization of news taunts us or the scourge of modern social media has us bringing pitchforks to other’s firewalls.
As a matter of fact, I think we need a laugh now more than ever (while not fully ignoring our civic and social responsibilities, of course)


I’ll readily book shows in random places (Sarajevo? Sure! Dar es Salaam? You bet! A random island off the coast of Cambodia? Let’s go!), go on stage blind to what the audience will find funny and learn a lot in the moment, on stage, in front of people, in a myriad of places.
I learn, evolve, challenge and blossom on a mic, but always am there to break down walls with the audience, give them a chance to shine and understand and connect and eventually create an ephemeral, intangible, inelegant never-to-be-repeated performance with the audience in cahoots.


I’ll freely admit I’m not the best comedian out there. There’s a long list ahead of me. Probably not even in anyone’s Top 10. I’m not going to buy a mansion doing this the way I do it. I’m not selling out SoFi. I don’t have a Netflix special or getting comedy festival invites. I’ve had only a handful of stalkers in my time.
But I wouldn’t change a damn thing.
Cuz at the end of the day, I get to share a few funny hours with some of the smiling faces you see here.
And that’s a damn good payment to the soul.


There’s nothing like hopping on stage, no props, lights or set, and having a roomful of wildly diverse internationals with various levels of English comprehension all laugh at the same time using the most subjective and immediate of art forms: Standup comedy.

My mom used to ask me what my retirement plan was.
Retirement?????
I don’t think so…..
